IAT is usually installed on top of plenum and sticks out like a sore thumb with a connector pointing up. An adequate manifold pressure sensor (3+ BAR) is expensive, bulky and still needs to connect to a vacuum source with a hose. What if I told you that there is a better way?\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBosch is and OEM supplier for a series of IAT and MAP sensors that are used in Europe. Some of these sensors are just air temp, others are just air pressure and there is one that combines both those functions into one sensor! A single sensor will measure your intake air temperature and manifold pressure up to 3.5 BAR (~37psi boost). \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003eAlso notable that this sensor measures vacuum down to 20kPa, which allows your ECU to generate proper air\/fuel mix at idle.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe sensor is slim and only uses one 4-wire connector for: ground, 5V, temp. output, press. output. This sensor is very popular with Motec standalones. I acquired calibration tables for it and confirmed that it works with Haltech and AEM. I am sure any other reputable ECU will recognize it with proper calibration file.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA small billet aluminum adapter plate installs in place of your EGR flange on driver (USDM) side. Adapter seals to the manifold with an o-ring and gets secured with two countersunk bolts. Bosch sensor inserts into an adapter, makes an airtight o-ringed seal and is held in place by a single bolt. This makes for a very clean installation especially for those who strive to keep their engine bays as close to a factory look as possible, and also those with wire tucked show cars. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIf you only need the IAT function there is a sensor for that which will also bolt right up. Sadly, some components age, corrode and give us problems as a result. One of the very problematic areas are the heater core pipes that are prone to corrosion, annoying coolant leaks and high labor cost for replacement due to their location.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs I was working on a custom twin turbo kit for this platform, it became evident that heater core pipes would need to be reworked a bit to provide additional features needed for this new setup. Instead of reinventing a wheel here, I decided to make brand new, factory style pipes that would be corrosion resistant and have additional barbs for new cooling needs. Of course, these are only half the price of factory heater core pipe set (that is now discontinued anyways).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003ePipes are made of stainless steel tube that has been shaped using a CNC press. This process produces identical parts with smooth bends. The additional barbs will be used for cooling CHRAs and external wastegates. Each 8mm barb has a direct access to coolant flow path for improved, unobstructed flow. That allowed me to work around physical dimensions of cylinder head casting and develop free-flowing runners that taper out gradually from each runner inlet all the way towards manifold 3” v-band outlet flange. That greatly helps with exhaust gas reversion and is not possible to do with tubular manifolds. Turbocharger placement also clears factory oil filter trees.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-I was also able to place the wastegate flange in the most favorable location given other physical constraints that I ran into. This kit was designed around Turbosmart 45mm GenV LITE wastegates, but enough room was allocated to run regular, taller Turbosmart 45mm wastegates as well as Tial MV-R and newest Garrett 45mm counterparts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-Almost perfectly symmetrical manifolds promote even flow through both VG30DETT cylinder heads and individual ports, allow mounting reverse-rotated turbocharger on USDM driver side and eliminating sharp 90-degree elbow off USDM driver side compressor housing. Cylinder #5 and #6 ports will no longer experience flow restrictions that are inherent to previous manifold designs.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-Turbo position clears all parts of factory cylinder head castings with no need of grinding. Compressor inlet piping has been upgraded to 3” diameter and clears low profile engine mounts with no modifications. When first introduced, Z32 had very respectable handling characteristics compared to other vehicles in its class. Thankfully, a lot of aftermarket suspension upgrades have been released since then to further improve those qualities and make the platform competitive with modern performance cars. Most owners go with an entry level coilover kit and an aftermarket set of control arms to correct suspension geometry after ride height reduction. That setup is usually sufficient to make some radical changes to the way your Z32 takes corners. Those of us who have higher demands from our vehicles also choose to upgrade sway bars and bushings (subframe, control arms and sway bars).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWhile all those bushings are available from aftermarket companies, one area of our vehicles was not upgraded correctly. Factory Z32 sway bar bushings are made of soft rubber. They do their job fine when new and probably suffice if you have mostly factory suspension car which you don’t really demand much of. Front bushings are held in place by a sheet metal bracket and an elevated square-shaped protrusion that is stamped into a tension rod mount. That protrusion easily compresses the rubber bushing and reduces lateral play.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThat all works fine until you decide to upgrade your front sway bar bushings to aftermarket polyurethane counterparts. Polyurethane is multiple times firmer than factory rubber and is not designed to be compressed too much. When you try installing front polyurethane sway bar bushings on an elevated square stamped in tension rod mounting plate, you compress your bushing in a manner that it is not designed for. That causes bushing to distort, lose its shape, crack and eventually tear. But wait, there is more… Most aftermarket sway bars are advertised as “28mm front and “21mm rear”. That may be true in case of rear sway bars, but front aftermarket sway bars are NOT 28mm (see picture of red 28mm bushing over front aftermarket sway bar). When you try installing a supplied 28mm polyurethane bushing on a sway bar that is NOT 28mm and also compress it by installing it on a stock square shaped stamped protrusion, you are placing hundreds of pounds of pressure on that bushing in its resting state. As a result, you have a distorted bushing, a bushing that wears prematurely causing it to fail, excessive drag on your front sway bar as well as binding in severe cases and just an all-around improper suspension function. On top of that, sheet metal mounting bracket that come with bushings have elongated holes for mounting which makes it difficult to set the sway bar perfectly perpendicular to centerline of your car. Please refer to images of front sway bar bushings installed on NISSAN Z32 300ZX with a very popular sway bar upgrade. Many kits include stainless steel bolts to mount the bracket to the subframe. Stainless steel hardware is rated at 40,000psi tensile strength, which is only about 2.5 grade. Automotive suspensions require hardware rated 8.8-grade and above. Stainless steel hardware cannot be used in suspension components because it snaps easily. Polar Engineering kits come with 10.9-grade hardware that matches Japanese automotive standards. Steel bolts are also flanged, which distributes load evenly and eliminates the need for additional washers. The bolts are also coated to provide superior corrosion resistance even in wet environments.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-Stainless greasable fittings will allow you to inject additional grease (if necessary) into the bushing without the need of disassembly. The fitting is made of stainless steel for corrosion resistance and has an internal check valve that will keep grease from pouring back out.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e-Additionally, Polar Engineering is first on the market to offer a Buna-N O-ring in the assembly designed to make a firm seal between grease fitting, bracket body, and the bushing. That causes slippage and excessive lateral travel of your sway bar.
